At our recent Academic Improvement and Achievement Awards, we celebrated students who demonstrated strong academic commitment and growth throughout Semester 1, 2026. The awards recognised both high achievement and significant improvement, highlighting the many ways students continue to pursue their personal best. We acknowledged these students by awarding Bronze, Silver and Gold Certificates for Academic Achievement, as well as Academic Improvement awards for students who improved their GPA by one or more points.

These moments provide an important opportunity to recognise not only academic outcomes, but also the persistence, organisation and commitment that sit behind student growth.
We congratulate the 160 students who received an Academic Achievement award and the 93 students who received Academic Improvement awards. We are extremely proud of the drive and dedication they showed in their studies throughout Semester 1, 2026.
Term 3 is a busy and important term for our Senior students as they review their Semester 1 results, reflect on feedback, and make informed decisions about the next steps in their Senior School journey.
Year 10
In Year 10, students have met with their SET Plan mentors to discuss future pathway aspirations and subject preferences for Year 11. Thank you to all parents and students for your involvement in this important process. Students are now continuing to build their understanding of their preparatory subjects for Year 11, so they are well placed for the remainder of the Senior Phase in Years 11 and 12.
Year 11
Students in Year 11 have now completed Unit 1 in all subjects and are working to achieve their best in Unit 2 so they can secure the relevant QCE point for each subject studied. All Year 11 Unit 1 results have been reviewed, and meetings have been conducted with students and parents, where needed, to discuss progress and any concerns. We will continue to monitor each student’s progress closely as they move through Units 2, 3 and 4.
In Term 4, Year 11 students studying General subjects will begin Unit 3 work and complete summative internal assessments. Units 3 and 4 are paired, which means students complete three internal assessments and one external examination to receive a final subject result out of 100. Where students meet the QCAA-determined boundary for a pass, they bank two QCE points. At this stage of the Senior Phase, it is important that students reflect on feedback from Year 11 formative assessment tasks and put recommended next steps into action. Students enrolled in Certificate III, IV or Diploma courses on Rank pathways will continue working towards competency completion.
Year 12
Students in Year 12 have completed Unit 4 internal assessments in all General subjects, and many have finalised certificate courses. Some Applied subject assessments are still to be completed. On 17 August, Year 12 students will receive their Senior School Report, which will include their internal assessment results across Units 3 and 4.
Year 12 students are busily preparing for their External Assessments. To support this preparation, the College conducts Mock Examinations so students can practice producing responses in the mode and timeframe of each External Assessment. Mock Examination results will contribute to the determination of College Subject Awards at the end of the year. Students should continue to prioritise revision and ensure they are familiar with the mode and conditions of each External Assessment.
Students have received information about their Mock Block exams and External Examinations. Parents and students should note that Mock Block runs from Thursday 27 August until Wednesday 9 September. During this time, Year 12 students are expected to attend scheduled examinations, workshops and lessons. Workshops are designed to support students whose External Assessments are more heavily weighted. Students may work from home when they do not have a scheduled examination, workshop or lesson.
Year 12 students are currently meeting with Mr Braithwaite in the Futures Hub for their QTAC meetings. Students will receive an ATAR indication during these meetings. Parents and students are reminded that this is an indication only and may fluctuate if assumptions about scaling are inaccurate or if External Assessment results differ from Internal Assessment results. In addition, students in Applied subjects and some certificate courses are finalising assessment. As the term comes to a close, Year 12 students will receive Mock Examination results and feedback, which can be used to identify key areas for focus in the lead-up to External Examinations.
As many students work towards completing assessment, it is timely to reinforce the valuable academic supports available at the College. All students can access Academic Mentors during Study Support on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. It has been excellent to see students seeking feedback on work completed at home and in class. When students understand the importance of seeking and responding to feedback, they learn that growth is possible. Year 12 students can also access the Senior Study Space on Wednesday afternoons in A301 from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
As we move into the peak of the assessment cycle, students and families are encouraged to review the Academic Policies and Procedures, particularly if a student requires an extension or misses a scheduled examination. This information, along with the Extension Application Form, can be found in the Policies and Procedures tile on MyMtA. Please note that in the Senior Phase, Years 10 to 12 students are required to provide medical documentation to support extension applications and absences from examinations due to illness.
With fewer than 100 school days remaining for our Year 12 students, I wish them well as they prepare for their final assessments and External Examinations. I look forward to seeing all Senior students continue to use feedback, seek support and work towards their goals throughout the term.
