Year 12 Final Chapel and Graduation

Yesterday, our community gathered to celebrate one of the most significant milestones in the life of a school: the graduation of the Class of 2026.  It was an occasion marked by pride, gratitude and reflection, as we acknowledged the end of these students' school years and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their lives.

As I prepared for their graduation ceremony, I found myself reflecting on my own journey. Over the past year, my family has been clearing out the home my father built in the late 1950s.  Among the possessions carefully stored away for decades was an old newspaper announcing my arrival into the world, along with school reports, photographs and childhood keepsakes.  These items served as a reminder that every graduate sitting before us was once a newborn child held in the arms of hopeful parents.

Somewhere in family homes across our region are treasured photographs, preschool drawings, sporting ribbons, certificates and mementos that tell the story of each student's growth.  They represent not only memories, but also the hopes and dreams families have carried for their children over many years.

Graduation provides an opportunity to recognise just how much our young people have grown.  They have developed their talents, interests and aspirations, celebrated successes, overcome challenges and built lasting friendships.  Through these experiences, they have become the young adults we are privileged to know today.

One of the key messages shared with our graduates was that life rarely unfolds exactly as planned.  Opportunities emerge unexpectedly, interests change, and new pathways often reveal themselves when least expected.  For this reason, I encouraged our graduates to approach the future with confidence, curiosity and courage.

While academic results, qualifications and career pathways are important, it is ultimately character that matters most.  Kindness, integrity, humility, and a willingness to make a positive contribution with others will serve them well wherever life takes them.

On behalf of the entire College community, I congratulate the Class of 2026 and thank the families and staff who have supported them throughout their journey.  We are grateful to have shared part of their story and look forward to following their future achievements as Collegians.
