St Patrick’s College vs St Joseph’s College                  19 September 2023

The First V Basketball team put on the black jersey and kicked off their season against St Joseph's College in what was a thrilling game. With the boys freshly excited to begin their Summer Sport campaign, they went to a packed St Joseph’s College gymnasium after school to face the noise of the opposition along with a loud crew of supporters.

From the beginning, the boys in black looked to push early and feed the ball inside for some easy baskets running and controlling the tempo. Joeys stayed close, keeping pressure on the ball. SPC moved the ball well through hands passing up the good shot for a great, open shot and continued to establish a lead on their opposition. As the game progressed, and the Firsts switched to a zone, the active hands and intense defence set the tone and continued to place pressure on Joeys. Down the stretch, some costly errors had brought Joeys closer than expected but the mighty First V held out and got their first win of the season. Final score 66-75.

Lots of great things to marvel about with the game, and the team continues to look to build and develop upwards towards the upcoming ISA season looking to make noise and show them that SPC are coming.
