Co-curricular - Junior Sport

It is amazing how fast 10 weeks can seem to go. It only seems like yesterday that Winter Sport concluded, and the Athletics season was only in its infancy. Now the term’s end is close at hand and all attention moves towards the completion of the Summer season.

The Summer training schedule will be out shortly. With all our facilities back to running, the Junior School will revert back to its usual practice of running two training sessions per week for each team. This might be a new experience for many of our Summer teams as building works have been going on since the arrive of the boys in the current Year 6 classes. None the less, all teams will have two sessions. The first session concluding at 4:45 PM (usually a Monday) with the second session concluding at 3:55 PM (anywhere from Wednesday to Friday). Boys and parents/carers need to be aware of team training days, times and venues. Boys training off site must be collected from the venue.

There is an exception to this schedule and that is Tennis. Junior School Tennis will train two sessions a week until 4:45 PM. This is due to having to travel to Santa Sabina College for the use of their courts. This follows the same practice as in Term 1, boys will be accompanied on the bus to Strathfield and then walk up to the courts and can be collected from the courts at 4:45 PM on Jersey Road. Both sessions will go until 4:45 PM due to time lost in travel.

Training will commence on the first day back in Term 4 which is Tuesday 10 October as Monday 9 October is a Staff Development Day. This gives all teams at least one session before the start of round seven on 14 October.

On Tuesday we had three students from the Junior School represent IPSHA and the NSWCIS Primary Athletics Carnival. All the boys finished extremely well, in the top half of their competitions. A special mention must go to Xavier Khoury of Year 6. He came second overall in the 100m and qualifies to represent NSWCIS at the upcoming PSSA Carnival in October.

I would like to wish everyone a safe, happy and relaxing term break. I look forward to everybody’s safe return and the recommencement of the Summer season.
