ANZAC Dawn Service and Open Day

What a wonderful Open Day we enjoyed on Saturday, with everyone enjoying the music as they sipped on a latte and basked in the sunshine.

Concert 1 commenced the day in style, opening with Giocoso (Year 5 tuned percussion) and featuring Vivace (Year 6 tuned percussion), Cantabile (Middle Years auditioned strings), Cherub Choir (Years 3 & 4), Sinfonia (Senior String Orchestra) and Ostinato (Years 4 – 6 Junior strings). The concert concluded with a rousing rendition of Walking On Sunshine sung by the energetic 100-voice Senior Choir. The Senior Vocal Ensemble moved those at the Principal’s Address with their ANZAC performance of War at Home.

With such amazing weather, the outdoor performances and those around the campus buildings proved very popular. The Junior School string ensembles Andante (Year 3) and Cabaletta (Year 4) commenced these performances outside the Upper Primary Building, and presentations by Malaguena (Year 6 strings) and the Junior Vocal Ensemble gathered large crowds.

The boys from Senior Vocal Ensemble was popular with passers-by as they sang a little barbershop, as was the Senior Stage Band, playing swing and rock, featuring vocalist Caleb P (10.4). Sforzando (Senior auditioned woodwind) and Forte (Senior auditioned brass) entertained those enjoying their food, as did selected soloists in the Staffroom, whilst Cantabile and Middle Years Vocal Ensemble filled the Middle Years building with beautiful music.

Prior to Concert 2, Camerata (Senior auditioned strings) and the Senior Vocal Ensemble entertained in the Senior School building, displaying their skill and musicality.

Concert 2 brought the whole day to a conclusion, with music groups performing to a full auditorium. Commencing with the flourishes of the Senior Concert Band, featured ensembles were Junior Vocal Ensemble, Junior Concert Band, Senior Vocal Ensemble, Malaguena, Camerata and Middle Years Vocal Ensemble. The whole day was concluded with Seraphim Choir (Year 5 & 6) singing Run Like the River. The day was certainly a triumph and filled with wonderful music-making!

Prior to Open Day, our Senior Vocal Ensemble were featured at our annual ANZAC Dawn Service, giving a very emotional performance featuring Daniel L (11.15) and Caleb P (10.4). Daniel B (12.7) played the Last Post and Reveille on the trumpet, which he also presented at the Junior School Chapel Service later in the day. The Senior Vocal Ensemble also participated in the Senior Assembly ANZAC segment.
