ANZAC Dawn Service

An annual highlight of the College calendar is the ANZAC Dawn Service, which brings together students, teachers, families and friends from across the College community. This year, over 250 people gathered early in the morning on Thursday 24 April to reflect on the contribution and sacrifice of Australian servicemen and women. In addition, over 50 students volunteered their time to help ensure the service ran smoothly, and that guests were able to enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast afterwards. Their willingness to serve the school community and contribute their skills and talents in various ways was greatly appreciated.
The service was led by the Humanities Captains, Hadassah R (11.15) and Zara Z (11.13), ably assisted by Priscilla P (9.12), Diana F (9.11) and Roman Y (12.10), as well as our Junior School Captains, Sarah W (6D) and Noah S (6B). The keynote address was delivered by Teannah R (12.7), one of our Senior History students. Her address focused on the experience of Australian veterans after they return home from service. The Senior Vocal Ensemble performed the National Anthem, the hymn Abide In Me, and the song War at Home, which perfectly complemented the theme of Teannah’s address. Rohan M (12.8) and Daniel B (12.7) concluded the service by leading the ANZAC observance. Afterwards, our annual community breakfast raised over $200 for Legacy Australia, who work to support the families of veterans.
A heartfelt thanks must go to the team who made vital contributions to the event: Mr Paul Moseley, Mrs Deb Roberts, Ms Rebecca Dyson and Ms Catherine James (Pancake Breakfast); Mr Jeffrey Clarke (vocal ensemble); Mr Aaron Chan and Mrs Christine Clarke (musical accompaniment) and Mr David Cook (technical support). Thank you also to all families for their early morning support of student involvement in this special event.
