What Did You Do At School?

Prep
We've had a wonderful and energetic start to Term 2! Cross Country was a highlight, as we gave our all as we raced around the oval. The reward? Big smiles and a delicious hot sausage in bread to enjoy afterwards – a well-earned treat!
Another exciting moment was our very first school photos. Everyone looked fantastic and beamed with pride for the camera – such a special memory for all. In the classroom, our curiosity has been in full swing! We became shape detectives during a fun 2D shape scavenger hunt, and our investigative skills continued during our visit to the Barn with Mrs Boer and Mr Stewart, where we put on our explorer caps and found many different living things – Isaac P (Prep N) found a bird’s nest!
Through Integrated Studies, we have started exploring the important concept of sustainability – learning what it means to care for and preserve something so it can last a long time. Our discussions and activities have inspired thoughtful conversations and big ideas – including how to be sustainable with our toys and clean our bedrooms! A heartfelt thank you to all the families who supported our Open Day. We are looking forward to many more exciting moments as the term continues!
Year 1
Early on the morning of Thursday 24 April, Dominic R (1JB), Bella DS (1CB), and Roman H (1G) laid their class wreaths at Oxley’s ANZAC Dawn Service to remember the men and women who fought to keep our country free.
In Integrated Studies, we are beginning to study the concept of Sustainability and are keen to explore what rubbish can and will decompose over the next ten weeks. We eagerly participated in an experiment in which we buried various samples of rubbish that are often sent to landfill, causing an array of environmental issues. We chose rubbish from our lunch boxes, from plastic chip packets to banana peels, sandwich crusts, and paper wrappers. Through drawings and annotations, we predicted the states of composition at the end of the experiment. Now, we are enthusiastically reviewing our rubbish experiment daily to determine if our predictions were accurate and whether we should make changes to their packaging to support a healthy environment and better support God’s unique and special creations.
Year 2
What a busy start to Term 2! A few of us braved the early morning on Thursday 24 April to attend the ANZAC Dawn Service. In Integrated Studies, we are conducting an experiment to see how quickly different pieces of rubbish decompose. Learning about this will surely help us to grow into better stewards of God’s creation. We are learning about Multiplication and are excited to learn our 2 x multiplication facts. It was exciting to take our instruments home at the end of last term, as we can now practise. Remembering to bring our instruments every Monday is a challenge, but we will get there.
Year 3
We have been learning about the difference between living and non-living things and how we can categorise them in their habitats. We carefully foraged for non-living things around the Barn, collecting an array of flora to craft nature pictures. However, a balmy breeze viciously swept many of the materials away before they could be secured with glue! As the emerald green leaves turn to delightful hues of ruby red and golden yellow, we are learning to be careful with their description in writing so their audience can visualise their inspiring ideas.
Year 4
We have been developing our narrative writing skills by exploring engaging story hooks to capture the reader’s attention from the very first sentence. We have also been learning how to use descriptive language to show rather than tell, bringing our characters and settings to life with vivid detail. It has been wonderful to see our creativity grow as we experiment with different ways to make our writing more powerful and engaging.
Year 5
We have had a fantastic start to Term 2! In English, we have been developing our curiosity as readers by asking thoughtful, deep questions to help us better understand the texts we explore. In Maths, we have been diving into multiplication, discovering a range of strategies that stretch our thinking and equip us to solve more complex problems. During our Bible time, we have paused to reflect on what we have learned so far from Mark’s gospel. We have noticed that people responded to Jesus in many different ways, but Mark clearly shows us that Jesus is the Son of God, a mighty healer, and a powerful king. We are excited to keep learning and growing together as Term 2 unfolds!
Year 6
We have had a busy start to Term 2 after a great term break and memories of our recent camp filling our minds.
