Spotlight on Learning
Foundation - Galilee Community
Dear Families,
We are so proud of the way our Foundation students are applying our school expectations each day. They are showing kindness, resilience, and a genuine love of learning, all while continuing to build their confidence and independence.
Our Multicultural Day/Pentecost parade was a wonderful success, and it was fantastic to see so many families come along to support our students. The students looked amazing in their traditional clothing and cultural outfits, proudly celebrating their family backgrounds and cultures. It was a special day filled with joy, pride, and community spirit.
Important Reminder: Monday 1st June - Student Free Day - SCHOOL CLOSURE.

Religious Education:
Next week in Religious Education, students will be learning about Aboriginal creation stories and the importance of caring for the land and food. They will have opportunities to share their own ideas about creation, explore foods that come from nature, and practise listening respectfully to Aboriginal stories and perspectives.

English:
Next week we will be reading 'Napangardi's Bush Tucker Walk’ by Lyndall Stavenow. This book is a story about a young girl named Napangardi who goes on a walk with her family to collect bush tucker, which is food gathered from nature. Along the way, readers learn about different traditional Aboriginal foods and the importance of caring for the land. The story celebrates Aboriginal culture, family connections, and respect for Country through simple language and engaging illustrations.

During explicit phonics instructions, we will focus on the /k/ and /x/ sounds.
We introduce sounds based on the Little Learners Love Literacy book 'Milo's Birthday Surprise'.

Mathematics:
Next week in Mathematics, students will be learning how to partition numbers to 10 into three parts using ten-frames. They will explore different ways numbers can be made and practise describing the two parts they can see.

Integrated Curriculum:
Next week in Inquiry, students will be learning about Australia. We will explore where Australia is located on the world map and learn that Australia is both a country and the only country that is also a continent. Students will also discover some of the foods people eat in Australia and share their ideas by drawing or talking about Australian foods. We look forward to exploring our country together through maps, discussions and creative activities!

Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will be learning the signs: Work together, Work in groups, Work in pairs, Sit here, Stand there, and Cooperate/get along.
Social & Emotional Learning:
Next week in SEL, students will be learning about different feelings we may experience when we have problems, such as feeling worried, sad, nervous or stressed. We will explore coping strategies that can help us calm our bodies and minds before asking a trusted adult for help. Through discussions and activities, students will practise recognising their emotions, using calming strategies and knowing when to seek support.
