Spotlight on Learning
Year FIVE - Bethany Community
Dear Families,
This week we celebrated Pentecost and Multicultural Day, recognising the diversity and richness within our school community. Students also marked National Sorry Day and the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, reflecting on this year’s theme, “All In,” which calls us to work together for unity, respect and reconciliation.
We look forward to leading Mass next Wednesday 3rd June at 9:30am at St Thomas the Apostle Church. All families are warmly welcome to attend.

Religious Education:
In Religious Education next week, students will learn about reconciliation and what it means to make peace. They will explore how the Holy Spirit helps people live with peace, kindness and respect. Students will explain how the Holy Spirit guides people to make good choices and connect the fruits of the Spirit to actions that help build peace in their everyday lives.
English:
In English, students will develop their reading, writing and grammar skills through a range of learning activities. They will practise handwriting and typing, identify compound sentences using coordinating conjunctions, build vocabulary from our class text, and respond to comprehension questions. Students will also improve reading fluency and plan and write a character reflection paragraph.
Mathematics:
In Mathematics next week, students will learn to identify the possible outcomes of a chance experiment and express these outcomes as fractions. They will develop their understanding of probability by representing chance as a fraction in simple situations.
Integrated Curriculum:
Next week, students will continue working on their Asia-Pacific project, exploring the countries, cultures and environments of the region. Through this learning, students will develop their geographical knowledge, research skills and understanding of Australia’s connections with the Asia-Pacific region.
Auslan:
Next week in Auslan, students will be working towards understanding that verb signs can be moved in the signing space to show where an action is happening or where something is being directed.
Social & Emotional Learning:
In Social Emotional Learning next week, students will consolidate their understanding of how different feelings can be strong or weak. They will continue to build their emotional vocabulary to better describe and explain a range of feelings. Students will identify and explain how emotions can vary in intensity and reinforce their understanding of trusted adults as people they can go to for support when needed.
