Spotlight on Learning
Year SIX - Bethlehem Community
Dear Families,
This week has been a fun-filled and meaningful week in Year 6. Students enjoyed participating in Multicultural Day and the parade, celebrating the many cultures within our community. We also celebrated Pentecost and reflected on the importance of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church.

Students also learnt about National Sorry Day and the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. We discussed the importance of recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories, and how we can work together towards reconciliation and understanding.

A big congratulations to all students who participated in the Division Cross Country. We are very proud of your effort, determination and sportsmanship!
Religious Education: In Religious Education, students have continued to consolidate their understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. They explored how Confirmation strengthens faith and discussed how the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit can guide people to make positive choices and live out their faith in everyday life.
English: In English this coming week, students are putting together the final pieces of their Factual Recount on the 1967 Referendum using their notes from non-fiction texts. Students will also get to say they have finished another class novel, Us Mob Walawurru. I wonder if they can tell you anything about the story and what they have learned about First Nations Peoples' connection to each other and the country?
Mathematics: In Mathematics, students are continuing their learning with decimals by applying inverse operations to check addition and subtraction calculations. They are also developing their understanding of rounding and estimating when adding and subtracting decimals to help determine the reasonableness of their answers.
Integrated Curriculum: In Integrated Studies, students are continuing to learn about climate change and its impacts across different countries, including India, South Africa and the Philippines. They are exploring how climate change affects communities in different ways and beginning to compare these impacts across regions around the world.
Auslan: In Auslan, students are learning that meaning is not always shown through a direct sign for every English word. They are exploring how words can be translated in different ways and how features such as eye contact, facial expressions and other non-manual features (NMF) play an important role in communicating meaning clearly and effectively.
Social & Emotional Learning: In SEL, students participated in Child Safety Week activities, learning about the importance of personal safety, respectful relationships and speaking up when something does not feel right. Students explored trusted adults and strategies they can use to help keep themselves and others safe.
