Instrumental Music

Another successful Music Festival was held on Friday night, with Bass coming away as the overall winners, Flinders in 2nd place. It was possibly the closest winning margin ever, with only two points separating first and second place. The House Spirit Trophy was awarded to Flinders.
The evening also featured incredible musical performances from winners of last term’s Soloist Night. This year’s theme, “Gaming,” provided plenty of opportunities for storytelling and creative costumes in the Musical Entertainment category.
It was also another win for the students, with the Year 12 team defeating the staff in their musical performances. The Year 12 students showcased their musical and dance talents in a medley of Michael Jackson songs, while staff impressed the audience with instrumental and vocal performances, complete with energetic dance moves and air guitars on stage.
Congratulations to everyone involved — from the backstage crew to the performers. Once again, the event was a wonderful example of school spirit and provided an enjoyable evening of musical entertainment for our school community.
Last month, our Senior Band marched in the ANZAC Day Parade in Melbourne. This marked the 27th year of KWRSC participating in the event, proudly marching alongside the 39th Battalion.
An excerpt from a thank-you letter from the President of the 39th Battalion Association, Mary Holloway:
“On behalf of the 39th Battalion Association, I would like to sincerely thank the amazing band, you, and the staff from Koo Wee Rup Secondary College for the wonderful support you have given us at the ANZAC Day March.
It was so good to see you line up with us in Collins Street, making it clear to the marshals and all onlookers that we had a special connection to the band.
I felt so proud of all of us as we marched together towards the Shrine and felt we were honouring our veterans in the best way we could.”
We are now preparing for two major upcoming events: the Cardinia Inter-School Battle of the Bands competition on Thursday, 18 June, at the Cardinia Cultural Centre in Pakenham, and our Term 3 school musical, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical Jr. Preparations are well underway for both exciting events.
Our school will be defending its 2025 “Best Overall School” title at the Battle of the Bands competition. We will be represented by three talented ensembles:
- Senior Concert Band with singers — performing Thriller by Michael Jackson
- Stage Band — performing Billabong Boogie by Ed Wilson
- Rock Band — performing Grace by Jeff Buckley
Our team includes students from Years 7–12. Tickets are on sale now for just $10 each. Please come along and support our students at this exciting event. Purchase tickets here: https://cardinia.sales.ticketsearch.com/sales/salesevent/162975
