Year 8 Report

Year 8 students at Koo Wee Rup Secondary College have recently commenced participating in the Life Changer Program, a preventative youth wellbeing initiative designed to empower young people with the skills and confidence to make positive choices in their lives. Through a series of engaging and interactive workshops, students explore topics such as emotional intelligence, resilience, peer influence, decision-making, and the impact of substance use.
The program encourages students to think critically about the choices they make, the people they surround themselves with, and the long-term effects that risky behaviours, including vaping, alcohol, and drug use, can have on their health, relationships, and future opportunities. LifeChanger’s approach focuses on equipping students with practical strategies to build self-awareness, strengthen their confidence, and develop healthy coping mechanisms when faced with challenges or pressure from others.
The program has been extremely well received by the Year 8 cohort, with students demonstrating high levels of engagement, maturity, and participation throughout each session. Students responded positively to the relatable presenters and open discussions, which created a safe and supportive environment for honest conversation and reflection.
Many students took away valuable lessons about making informed decisions, resisting negative peer pressure, building positive relationships, and understanding the importance of looking after both their mental and physical wellbeing. The Life Changer Program has already sparked meaningful conversations amongst the cohort and reinforced the importance of resilience, self-belief, and personal responsibility within the community, and we are looking forward to the sessions that will continue through Term 2.
