Dear Parents and Carers,

MACSSIS

In our previous newsletter, we shared information about the important annual Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS). The survey provides valuable feedback from students, families and staff about learning, wellbeing, school culture and community engagement, helping us identify key priorities for ongoing school improvement.

This year’s survey will be open from 31st August to 18th September 2026. Students in Years 4–6 will complete the survey at school, while families and staff will be able to participate online using a secure link and password that will be emailed out shortly.

Participation is voluntary and responses are confidential. We strongly encourage our families to take part, as every response helps us continue to strengthen our school community. Please note, that for the families who participated in the 'Your Voice Our Vision' workshops this week, the MACSSIS survey is separate and different to that. The MACSSIS survey provides information for Mother Teresa on a wealth of areas to provide future goals and support planning for the following year, as well as providing information for Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) in regards to Catholic schools in the archdiocese.

NAPLAN 2026

Recently, all schools in Australia were shared into the State and National results for NAPLAN. We have begun reviewing this data and looking at the students' results from Mother Teresa, in light of the State and National data.  Some early findings are:

  • In Year 3, the School Mean (average) increased significantly from 2025 in all areas assessed - Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.

  • In Year 3 Spelling, the School Mean (average) is the same as the State Mean.

  • In Year 5 Writing, the School Mean (average) is above the State Mean.

  • Growth data from Year 3 2024 to Year 5 2026 for students who were here in Year 3 and are here in Year 5, demonstrated growth above the national average and the state average between Year 3 and Year 5 in all areas assessed - Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy.

These results provide encouraging early evidence that the changes we have made at Mother Teresa to our teaching, monitoring and assessment practices in Mathematics and English are having a positive impact. This work is grounded in evidence-informed practice and aligned with MACS’ Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement.

Kind regards,

Conchita
