Confraternity Shield
St Augustine’s First XIII travelled to Townsville over the holidays to compete in the annual Confraternity Shield. After being placed in a tough pool, Saints got off to a slow start against defending champions, St Brendan’s College. The boys regrouped and showed some positive signs against Padua College and Marist Ashgrove but, unfortunately, untimely errors and ill-discipline resulted in squandered opportunities and two agonising 2-point losses.
The boys managed to bounce back with two good wins over St Mary’s Toowoomba and Rockhampton Grammar School to give us the opportunity to compete for the Bob Linder trophy. Unfortunately, we were unable to play our best footy, once again going down to our Marist rivals, Marist College Ashgrove. Thanks to Mr Kris O’Farrell for the tireless work that you have put into the team and Mr Pat Connell for your hard work around our base camp throughout the week. The boys have an opportunity to bounce back from a disappointing Confraternity campaign in the second half of the Aaron Payne Cup season. Good luck boys!
Mountain Biking
Congratulations to the men of Saints and St Monica’s students who raced at the Mike Carney Toyota Interschool MTB Race in Townsville. With multiple podiums, a massive presence (33 Saints racers), and a love of work, the students were crowned “Champion School”. Thank you to all the parents who were there, our sponsors who fed the racers dinner and breakfast, and Cooper in Year 11 who welded a bike rack for the team.
While the whole team worked diligently, the following students gained podium places in their respective categories: Finn Slade, Jack Bowe, Logan Lockyer, and Oliver Whiteside.
Athletics Carnival
The annual St Augustine’s Athletics Carnival was held on the Tuesday of Week 9 last term at Barlow Park. It was great to see so many students participating in the day and getting involved in the events and demonstrating house spirit and sportsmanship. Congratulations to Reginald House on their tight win and the age champions, below. These congratulations must also be extended to all students who placed in events or got in and had a dig as this is what the day is all about. Finally, thank you to the staff who ensured that the day ran seamlessly.
