A 'Constant'
Last week was a big week for Huntingtower Students.
The Year 9s were slipping and sliding and weaving their way through ski camp.
The Year 10s were navigating their way through Work Experience.
The Year 11s were exploring Uluru and its surroundings and connecting to country.
Even the Y3 and 4 students were travelling beyond the confines of their classroom, albeit to nearby Cranbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.
We are sure that hand-in-glove with these experiences went big emotions too – a sense of adventure, excitement, anticipation, and maybe even ‘butterflies in the tummy’, perhaps a feeling of being out of one’s comfort zone.
Did you know that while all this was happening, there was, is a zone that never changes, that is always a ‘constant’ and a ‘comfort’? It is an unconfined zone, a zone without boundaries. It is a ‘consciousness’ that we can take with us, wherever in the world we are, whatever situation we find ourselves in.
In the words of Hymn 148:
In heavenly Love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid;
But God is round about me,
And can I be dismayed?
We may well say, “All is good in my world at the moment, nothing to dismay me. I’m not having to weather any storms, and my ‘heart’ is right where I’d like it to be.” If so, then let us not take for granted that our ‘zone’ is comfortable. Let us give thanks for the ‘constant’ – the abiding Love, the presence of ‘Good’ all around us.
What of those whose ‘zone’ is anything but comfortable, and may be struggling at the moment? Perhaps we can find an opportunity to reach out and be an empathetic, attentive listener. Whilst they may not be aware of it, or might even deny it, we can quietly affirm, within, that they, too, have a ‘constant’ surrounding presence of Good.
