Y11 - Uluru

Year 11 Central Australia Experience – Yulara & Alice Springs
From Monday 28 July to Saturday 2 August, our Year 11 students embarked on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Central Australia, an experience filled with cultural enrichment, natural wonders and personal growth.
The trip began with visits to iconic landmarks such as Uluru (Ayers Rock), where students witnessed the breathtaking colour transformations at both sunrise and sunset. A walk through the Field of Light installations offered a surreal and magical experience under the stars. At Karrke Cultural Experience, students engaged in meaningful cultural immersion learning about bush tucker, traditional tools, the medicinal properties of native plants and gender-specific roles within Aboriginal communities.
Throughout the journey, students explored the spectacular landscapes of Mount Conner, Standley Chasm, Simpson’s Gap, and took part in the challenging but awe-inspiring Kings Canyon Rim Walk. These hikes pushed comfort zones and provided powerful opportunities for reflection and connection with nature.
The group also took in the sweeping panoramic views of Alice Springs from Anzac Hill, a site of historical significance and a moment of quiet reflection for many.
A visit to Desert Park deepened students’ understanding of the unique flora and fauna of the region, while the Reptile Centre with Rex proved to be both informative and entertaining. His humour and vast knowledge left a lasting impression on students and staff alike. The group also explored the historic Telegraph Station, gaining insights into Australia’s communication history and early settlement life.
Despite some initial travel delays at both the beginning and end of the trip, the group remained flexible and positive. Students were treated to delicious meals throughout the week and consistently demonstrated resilience, independence and strong peer support.
The camp provided not just a journey through landscapes, but also a journey of self-discovery and growth. Watching our students challenge themselves, support one another and absorb the richness of the land and culture was truly heartwarming.
I feel extremely humbled and blessed to have shared this experience with our Year 11 students for the fourth time. A heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff team and the students for making this such a rewarding and successful trip. Your enthusiasm, care and openness to every moment made it truly memorable.
