Mention the name Roche around Hobart and it will be immediately associated with ferries! Brothers Michael (SVC 1966-71), Peter (SVC 1969-74) and John (SVC 1976-79) have conducted harbour cruises at Port Arthur for over twenty five years and more recently the ferries to Mona at Berriedale and to Peppermint Bay.
On August 10 the company commenced a one-year trial to resurrect the Bellerive – Sullivan’s Cove service. The ferry trial is a key component in the Tasmanian Government’s Greater Hobart Transport Vision.
The purpose-built ferry can carry 107 passengers and 15 bicycles and will operate in the mornings and afternoons on weekdays in an attempt to partially alleviate Hobart’s increasing road traffic congestion.
