Career Pathway Plans

During May and June, the Dandenong High School Careers Team provided all Year 12 students the opportunity to have a personal conversation with a counsellor about their Career Pathway plans. While students are in all different places in their career planning journey, the overwhelming feedback from these interviews was extremely positive. Students hoping to go onto tertiary studies discussed with their counsellor a wide range of relevant information to help them in their first steps in pursuit of their preferred career pathway, by the end of the interview most students felt they had a much better understanding around the pathways opportunities available to them. Students looking to go into the workforce after Year 12 had a range of discussions in areas such as tips for applying for jobs, resume and letter writing and other practical information around the approach relevant to their desired industry or role.

Year 12 students planning to go into tertiary study will meet with the Careers Team again in Term 3 to be supported through the VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) application and preference process, which will include applying for SEAS (Special Entry Access Scheme) and Scholarships where relevant.

We have recently received 2023 course handbooks from most universities and TAFEs that our students typically apply to, which are available free to students who are interested.

The Careers Team are passionate about supporting students into the first step of their career pathway. Students seeking careers guidance are welcome to visit the Careers Team in Jacaranda (J4) during recess, lunchtime, before and after school.

We offer resume help on Tuesday lunchtimes for students in any year level looking to apply for casual or full-time work. Students should first attempt to put a resume and cover letter together before coming to see us, then we will assist with enhancing and fine-tuning.
