Year 7 Boys Soccer

On Monday 17th May, a squad of 26 Year 7 students ventured to Knox Park to represent the College as part of the Year 7 Boys Soccer teams. Our Wantirna A and B teams each played three 1 hour matches, firstly against one another, and then against Rowville East and Rowville West. Needless to say, all boys were very tired by the end of the day!

Our first match was the local ‘grudge’ match between the two teams. All boys played the game in great spirit but Wantirna A had the edge in class and soccer experience and managed to put a few goals past their Wantirna B peers.

Wantirna A then went into their game against the Rowville East team and played with pluck and dare against a side that were well drilled and very experienced. The result did not go our way but the boys can hold their heads high. They then finished with a match against Rowville West which resulted in quite a few goals and celebrations from our boys. Winning two out of three matches on the day was a well earned result.

Our Wantirna B team did not fare as well and whilst we went into the game against Rowville West with confidence of a good showing, we didn’t quite show the intent required and conceded a few goals. We did have some chances but unfortunately couldn’t finish off when it mattered. Our last game against Rowville East was marred by a couple of injuries and the length of the day really showed by the second half, the boys tried some creative attempts to curb the flow of goals but to little avail.

All of our players can be proud of the way that they represented the College and maintained good humour and sportsmanship towards their opponents and the referees. Thank you to student coaches Daniel and Rohan from Year 10 who looked after the A team with their unique style of vocal encouragement and support, as well as to student teacher Rochelle Foley who accompanied the team.

Finally, thank you to one of our parents Kerry Douglas who came along and took some fantastic action shots of the boys which have been shared with this article.
