Celebrating Achievement
Charlotte Jonsen (Year 9) and Cecily Okena (Year 8) travelled to the Sunshine Coast as part of the Marlin Coast Academy Netball team. The girls were lucky to have the opportunity to train with and play against several other Academy teams from the Sunshine Coast, as well as train with and get mentored by several of the SC Lightning players. It was a fabulous opportunity for all involved and both girls did extremely well.
Congratulations to Ethan Bain (Year8) who was awarded Under 15s Grand Final Touch Judge and Aspiring Junior Referee of the Year for 2021.
Congratulations to Charline Scherer (Year 10) who competed in the Noosa Triathlon on the last weekend in October. She completed her first Olympic triathlon (1.5km swim, 40km ride, 10km run) in a blistering time of 2hr 47mins and was one of the youngest competitors out of the field of 6000 athletes.
Congratulations to Ava Hull (Year 11) who signed up as a School Based Apprentice with Nikki's Hair Design. Ava will be studying a Cert III in Hairdressing. All the best with your apprenticeship Ava!
Dylan Arkey (Year 11) has received a National 2021 IVET Excellence Award. He was the only winning entry from QLD which is an outstanding effort. We congratulate Dylan on achieving his Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways. Lee Fudge from IVET visited St Mary's to give Dylan his certificate and prize of $500.
Congratulations to Holli Snell (Year 10) who signed up as a School Based Apprentice with KDP Hair and Beauty. Holli will undertake a Cert III in Hairdressing. All the best with your apprenticeship Holli.
Congratulations to Talisha Leighton (Year 10) who was selected to take part in the CQU Exercise and Sports Science MVP Student Program. MVPs tested their grit against Taipans results for a range of sport science tests including vertical jump, 20m sprint, and modified agility Y. They also learned about CQU courses, undertook a mini fitness session, tested out equipment and watched the Taipans train.
Both Bree and Milli (Year 9) represented Cairns over three days in Maryborough at the state Under 15 championships and were rewarded for their efforts winning the Division 2 final against Rockhampton. Both girls were exceptional on and off the court demonstrating great skills and sportsmanship. Milli finished the tournament with nine goals named as a QLD shadow player and Bree was fortunate to Captain the side and was named in the QLD squad of 30.
Congratulations to the Year 9’s who participated in this years ICAS, the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools is a suite of full-colour online competitions designed specifically for primary and secondary students, made by UNSW Sydney.
Congratulations to this week's Year 9 Head of Year Certificate recipients! Receiving a Head of Year Certificate is a testament to the students discipline, consistency and effort in both their studies and community involvement.
