YEAR 7 NEWS…

Well, we have almost made it! Only five more days until the last day of Year 7 for 2021. It has been a very exciting and rewarding year for our Year 7 students at St Mary’s. I would like to take this opportunity in my last college connect article to say thank you to the many people who assisted the Year 7 students of 2021.

Firstly, thank you to the Year 7 Pastoral Mentors for 2021. These teachers have been a guiding hand for each of the students this year from timetabling to uniform requirements, navigating the school grounds and their new device requirements. Pastoral Mentors play an essential role across all students lives at St Mary’s and no doubt our Year 7 Mentors will do the same. The Pastoral Mentors have supported the many ideas and initiatives I have thrown their way and supported families and students in this process. I thank our Pastoral Mentors sincerely for their efforts this year.

Thank you also must go to our Year 11 Mentors this year. Both class mentors and event mentors have ben integral in the many opportunities presented to the Year 7s this year. The BIG NIGHT OUT was run very successfully for the first time ever with the Year 11 students running the evening and engaging with the Year 7 students. It was excellent to see our senior and junior students mixing in this environment. Each week the class mentors attend a Year 7 homeroom during pastoral group. These leaders have been tasked with engaging the Year 7s with one another to develop friendships and provide support around the college. A very big thank you to Ms Headridge and her team of Year 11 Mentors this year.

Finally, I would like to thank the parents and families of the Year 7 students. Without your continued and ongoing support, it would not have been such a successful year. I appreciate the phone calls and emails that are in support of your child and encourage this to continue in the future. It has been pleasing to speak with many of you at parent teacher interviews, awards evenings and through email and phone calls to provide you with the support required to assist you in your quest for a successful schooling opportunity for your child. Thank you for supporting me in my role as Head of Year 7 this year and I look forward to working with you all in the future across other areas in the College.

Our last event for Year 7 this year is our End of Year Pastoral Day at Holloways Beach. Permission forms have been sent out through parent slips. Please take the time to read through the events of the day and let me know if your child is unable to attend. This is a compulsory school day and will require normal explained absence communicated through the College office on the day. Please do let me know prior for catering and organisational purposes.

Students are required to wear their sports uniform on the day to and from the beach. Students are permitted to bring additional clothing and swimmers to wear at the beach. I do require these additional clothes to by sun safe given the heat and sun exposure at this time of year. Students will return to school in time for the Christmas Liturgy and clean out of lockers and classrooms.

If your child will be absent on the last few days of school, please notify the College office and make sure the locker has been cleaned out otherwise it will end up in the rubbish. All lockers must be cleared by the last day of term and anything present will be removed.

Thank you once again for all the support this year. Next year your child will be guided by Mrs Alison Frazer – Pastoral Leader of Year 8 who will at this stage take your child through to Year 9. I leave you in more than capable hands and look forward to seeing the students’ friendly faces around the College over the coming years.

I wish you and your family a wonderful and safe holiday break. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Upcoming events for Term 4 include:
