New Books
Four terrific books are suggested below and this week, our interviewee is Mr Hellyer who has briefly shared comments on his reading.
1. What are you reading? A book called “Through Indian Eyes.”
2. Are you enjoying it? YES, thoroughly enjoying this book.
3. Would you recommend it? If anyone is interested in Native American history, I definitely recommend this book.
Skulduggery Pleasant – BEDLAM by Derek Landy. Another desperate journey to recover her sister’s lost soul, Valkyrie Cain is certainly up against it and there is nothing Skulduggery Pleasant can do to stop her. Madness is unfolding all around and Omen has no choice but to become the hero or die in the attempt!
The girl who came out of the woods by Emily Barr. Needing to find three keys and with two names on her lips, Arty alone, must find her Uncle Matthew and Tania who will help save her community; a hidden matriarchy in the hills of India. The deadly plague which is threatening Arty’s commune is desperate for answers and those keys and people hold the answers. This is ‘dark fiction’ with punch.
Defy the Fates by Claudia Gray. The final battle between Earth and the colony planets is here. Earth will go to any length to preserve domination over all humanity. However, the universe’s most advanced ‘mech’ and its first ‘human-mech’ hybrid might have the power to change all that for good. We pick up the story of Abel whose mission is to save the life of Noemi and together they try to bring about change. This is the third book in the trilogy Defy the Stars and Defy the Worlds.
Meat Market by Juno Dawson. If you think the modelling world is fun, you might want to think again. Jana Novak is tall, gangly and sick of comments about her androgynous looks. That is, until she’s unexpectedly scouted as a model and catapulted to superstardom. But the fashion industry is as grimy as it is glamorous and there are predators at every turn. This story reveals the dark underbelly of the fashion industry. A must read for anyone interested in how the fashion industry works.
