Intersection Upgrade

BALACLAVA/VERNEY/NEW DOOKIE ROADS/HAWDON STREET

Greater Shepparton City Council would like to thank the community for its patience during the preliminary works which have been undertaken in preparation for the upgrade of the Balaclava Road / Verney Road / Hawdon Street / New Dookie Road intersection.

Background

In 2015, in response to increasing traffic congestion at and around the existing roundabout at Verney Road, New Dookie Road, Hawdon Street and Balaclava Road, Council began to investigate the issues and solutions.

Local area traffic studies were commissioned by Council in 2016 and again in 2019 and they confirmed the current roundabout configuration was not adequate for current traffic volumes and would become considerably more congested under predicted future growth.

These reports recommended a signalised intersection with additional traffic lanes was the most suitable option to reduce current congestion, improve safety during peak times and provide for the predicted growth in traffic volumes using this location.
