From the Deputy Principal
As the busyness of the beginning of the school year subsides, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the new Deputy Principal.
My name is Jay Weston. I was raised on a farm in Central Victoria, near the small gold-rush town of Wedderburn where I completed my early years of education.
Upon achieving a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education at the University of Ballarat, I relocated to the Bendigo region working for many years as an educator at Eaglehawk Secondary College.
Since that time, a 21-year journey in education has taken me to a number of schools and educational facilities, gaining experience in a range of different teaching and leadership roles, the most recent as Deputy Principal at Wangaratta High School.
Throughout each role, I have maintained a solid commitment to driving school improvement, which has enabled success in advancing academic excellence, wellbeing, and engagement, as well as significant improvements in VCE and NAPLAN results.
I was drawn to Girton due to the school’s strong emphasis on continuous improvement in student learning and staff development, which highlights the commitment of school leaders and staff to deliver a diverse and relevant academic and developmental education for young people.
As educators, we are compelled to engage, inspire, and support our students to view ongoing learning and self-development as a lifelong adventure.
I look forward to working closely with the Girton Grammar School community to build on the strengths of our school and empower our students to take responsibility for their learning and achieve their personal best as they venture into the world.
Mr Jay Weston
Deputy Principal
