English Department News

The English Department would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2023 school year, which will be a time of great rejuvenation and transformation for students’ experiences in the English space. We are excited to engage in further opportunities to strengthen the experiences students have in their study of English throughout the year.

This year, I look forward to working collaboratively with and leading the highly=skilled English team to both enhance and refine the inner workings of the Department, and to assist in the delivery of the newly-developed strategic direction for the English Department for 2023. Girton's strategic plan, and in particular the 2023 12-month Implementation Plan, will ensure every staff member and student experiences a year of transformational teaching and learning through innovative experiences, which align with the Australian Curriculum: English Version 9.0, and the new VCE Study Designs in both English and Literature. These re-developed units of work and learning experiences will ensure students experience as much success as they possibly can in their English studies while engaging with texts that are relevant and target messages about our ever-evolving societies.

At this point, I would like to introduce both Ms Sarah Siakew and Ms Christine Duff to our Department. These two highly-skilled English teachers are new to Girton this year and are working in the VCE English space.

In 2023, our English Astra pages will also be undergoing some changes so that every student can access all learning resources that are used in English for the year level they are in. Teachers will be adding their resources to English Course Pages for further transparency and to ensure students can access all materials as we all know students learn in a variety of ways.

Again, welcome to the 2023 school year. Both the English staff and I look forward to working with our students across English this year to enhance their learning journey.
