Arts Faculty News
2023 has already been a flurry of activity as we get our Arts programs up and running for the year. Already, ensemble rehearsals have been underway, paint has hit the paper, and auditions for productions are imminent.
Over the break I reflected on what it is to be creative, develop your voice in your artistic practice, and what participation in the Arts offers our students. If we have learned anything from the past few years it is that uncertainty and change can be just around the corner. A thorough and diverse Arts education encourages students to be resilient, flexible, self-aware, and able to deal with changes in an ever-complex world. New research released by the Australian Council for the Arts revealed that “applying creativity has the potential to holistically impact children – academically, socially, and emotionally – and enhance learning across a range of academic subjects.”
This year our Arts departments will be focussing on developing the student as an artist, and how we can encourage students to find their own artistic pathway, whether Visual Art, Drama, Music or a combination. With an enormous range of artistic pursuits on offer at Girton we look forward to reflecting on the highlights here on our regular news page in eLink.
