Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

Since commencing at the College this year, I have enjoyed getting out to sport each weekend and watching our boys represent the College. Furthermore, I have appreciated the opportunity to meet you, our parent cohort, and continue to build the strong relationship between home and school. If you see me around the grounds on the weekend, please introduce yourself, ask me any questions you may have and let me know how your son is enjoying his experience at the College so far this year.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to all our Marist mums and mother figures. I hope you enjoyed your special day yesterday. As a College in the way of Mary our Good Mother, this day is a significant day in our community and it was great to see such a strong representation of our Primary mums at our Mother and Son breakfasts last week.

Year 6 Mass

This morning our Year 6 students took part in a year level Mass in The Chapel. This special celebration of the Eucharist is part of their current Religious Education unit on the parts of the Mass. Special thanks to our Year 6 teachers, Fr Tini (College Chaplain) and Mena McLean (Campus Minister) for providing this opportunity for our boys.

Walkathon

Thank you to all our families who have already begun fundraising for the College Walkathon. This year the Primary will be competing against the eight secondary houses to see who can raise the most money. I am happy to say that after one week, we are firmly in the lead with almost $1000 raised already. Throughout the fundraising campaign, the highest Primary fundraiser for each week will be invited to colour in the Walkathon Tally located in the main yard. Congratulations to last week’s highest fundraiser, Harrison Smith (6V). A reminder that the Walkathon is a compulsory event for all our students and a great opportunity for us to all come together as a community, your support in ensuring your son participates in this event is very much appreciated. All families are also welcome to join us and walk on the day.

NAPLAN

This morning our Year 5 cohort participated in the first of their NAPLAN tests. I was extremely proud of the boys and the way they handled themselves during what can sometimes be an overwhelming experience for them. Last week myself and Jen Little (Primary Learning Leader) spoke to the boys about this being an opportunity for them to represent the College and demonstrate how hard they have worked in their learning this year. I emphasised to the boys the importance of working to their full potential and using their time wisely. The boys will be provided with a light healthy snack each morning but it is imperative that they have a substantial breakfast prior to arriving at school.

Free Dress Day

This Thursday we will be holding a Free Dress Day across the College. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation that will go towards the MATES (Marist Are Taking Everyone Seriously) program. Traditionally the free dress day for MATES has provided some means to the ongoing evening with our friends of the street (or BBQ with the Homeless).
