Winter Concerts
The music students are all working towards their major performances this semester for the upcoming concerts.
The Winter Choral Concert is being held on the evening of Friday 16 June at the Waverley Salvation Army Temple in 958 High St Rd, Glen Waverley. This amazing concert will feature our ten choirs performing in a beautifully resonate acoustic. Tickets are not necessary, but we ask for a gold coin donation upon entry.
The Winter Instrumental Ensembles Concert is on the evening of Wednesday 21 June in our own Performing Arts Centre. This concert centres on our orchestras and bands, and will showcase a variety of styles, culminating in student performances of movements from three different concertos.
European Music Tour
The 49 students and 6 staff are now into the final stages of preparations for the two-week music tour of Italy in the upcoming winter holidays. The ensembles comprise of a Symphony Orchestra, Chorale, String Orchestra and Concert Band, with most students appearing in up to three of these groups.
We are performing in 10 concerts between Rome and Venice, including three concerts for the illustrious Florence International Youth Music Festival. There is a performance of the groups at a farewell/practice concert on the evening of Monday 12 June in the Waverley Salvation Army Temple in 958 High St Rd, Glen Waverley.
Monash Youth Music Festival
Music students are encouraged to enter themselves into the Monash Youth Music Festival being held largely within the Music Centre at Huntingtower in early Term 3. There are many sections available for soloists and chamber groups at all levels and stages of learning.
This provides a point of focus for learning and playing your instrument, which is not only motivational but an exhilarating experience. There are sections that are competing for places and prizes, and non-competitive ‘feedback only’ opportunities. To place an entry please visit the website at https://www.monashyouthmusicfestival.com.au/
Entries are currently open but will close in early June.
Music Staff News
During the last holidays we learnt of the sad news that Ms Carolyn Berlin had decided to discontinue her teaching of the flute at Huntingtower due to increased workloads at another school. Carolyn had been a member of the music staff at Huntingtower for over twenty years and had such a positive impact on so many students over this timespan. We thank her for her service to Huntingtower.
In her place, we were very fortunate to be able to secure Mr Luke Carbon to teach the flute. Luke is an in-demand multi-instrumentalist woodwind specialist as a performer and as a teacher, who holds many university degrees and other musical qualifications including his Licentiate in Music on two instruments. He is also a regular pit orchestra musician for musical theatre in Melbourne, including Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, and the current production of Mary Poppins. Luke is also performing with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Victorian Opera, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. He has taught at Wesley College, Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar and Brighton Grammar to name a few. Luke brings to Huntingtower a wealth of music and education experience from which we will all benefit.
Current Vacancies
The Music Centre has a limited number of places available for private tuition and instrument hire on various instruments. We anticipate these places being filled soon, so if you are interested in accessing a relatively inexpensive instrument hire to go with private tuition on an instrument, please visit:

We are especially interested in filling our oboe, bassoon, and low brass instrument places, but will field any enquiries for any instruments that we offer.
