EISM Athletics

On Wednesday 3 May, a cold wind whipped through the school and rain poured down through the night… not long after this 103 Huntingtower students boarded 2 buses heading to Lakeside stadium for the Division 1 EISM Athletics Carnival.

With some trepidation about the weather, we arrived with building enthusiasm and started warming up. 1500m races started the day with a heavy track and a light wind. Our team adjusted well to the weather conditions with a close eye on the radar.

Only 4 hurdles races were cancelled due to the rain and with the sun coming out to make an appearance so did the ribbons for Huntingtower with more than 50 ribbons achieved over the duration of the day. Huntingtower won 20 events with 18 individual firsts and 2 relays teams. We finished the day’s events with a spectacular set of baton changes taking the blue ribbons for the 15 girls and Open Boys relays.

Students showed persistence, grit, and teamwork. Especially those that stepped up when others were injured or unable to compete. A huge thank you to our Athletics Team for your manners, positive attitude and enthusiasm on a day where the weather encouraged you to stay inside where it was warm.

We must thank the great team of specialist coaches (David, Angela, Chloe and Issy) and teachers that supported the Athletics team on the day and at early morning trainings. They worked like a well-oiled machine, encouraging, supporting and cheering on our team.

Our Athletics Captains Ben, Tom, Katherine, and Kai not only achieved individual ribbons, but were able to stand proud during the presentations at the end of the event as Huntingtower was presented with several awards.

With excitement we celebrated winning:

  • Under 15 girls pennant
  • Girls Aggregate Trophy (never before has this been achieved in Huntingtower's history)
  • Placing 4th overall
  • Achieving 'Most Improved School' trophy

A special congratulations to Olivia C for achieving three 1st and two 2nd places and Tonia T for achieving two 1st and three 2nd placings, a total of 5 ribbons each on the day.

We are very proud of all of our athletes and look forward to seeing what they can achieve in the Athletics Champions Event on Thursday 25th May.

VSAC Swimming Competition 2023

On Monday 8 May, five dedicated students braved the cold and wet to compete in the Victorian Schools Association Swimming Competition in the outdoor pool at MSAC.

George H, Cheng-Yu H, Julia P, Peter D and Christopher L competed in multiple individual events and team relays, with some personal best records broken and winning several 2nd and 3rd ribbons. An outstanding achievement for our committed swimmers.

A special congratulations to our Year 7 Boys - Peter and Christopher who achieved magnificent results in their first year representing the EISM. Well done team.

Thank you to our wonderful supportive parents and Mrs Sheehan who attended on the night and encouraged all the EISM students.

The EISM finished 3rd overall, amongst some strong associations. A very pleasing result.

All Schools Badminton Championships 2023

What a huge week in the world of Badminton for some of our students at Huntingtower.

10 boys and 6 girls headed into MSAC to represent Huntingtower at the All-Schools Badminton Championships for 2023. Schools from all over Victoria came together to compete in this elite competition.

Our 2 boys’ teams had tough pools but played gallantly to win sets in all rounds. The cross over matches were kinder allowing the A boys to flex their skills to control play, winning the next 3 rounds convincingly, including the grand final in the bottom section of the competition.

It was great to see our year 12 boys, Matt and Faris dominant in all their doubles games together, having fun and inspiring their young teammates. The B boys worked hard to stay in contention but unfortunately were outplayed by more experienced players and missed out on playing finals.

The girls team, led by Anushka, started strong with a convincing win over a local team, Doncaster East. Unfortunately, a tight second game ended in a 3-2 loss and had the girls unsettled, but in true Huntingtower spirit, they fought back with aggressive strokes and strategies to place second in the pool ladder. The girls went on to win the semi-final easily and progressed to the grand final, only to narrowly lose to the Maribyrnong Sport Academy, placing 6th overall. What a wonderful achievement for our girls in their first ever All Schools Badminton competition.

Congratulations to the following students for their commitment and love of Badminton.

  • Boys Team A – Faris, Nihar, Justin, Sasthi and Matthew
  • Boys Team B – Pranshu, Aaron, Jack, Subeer and Alfred
  • Girls Team – Helena, Jessie, Liana, Yuchen, Anushka and Amanda

A huge thank you to Faris and Anushka for initiating this competition, their expertise, time and effort in coaching and supporting their fellow peers. You are truly amazing!
