From the Principal

Thought for the week

“The good you do and embody gives you the only power obtainable.”

Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health 192: 23-24

Term 2 has commenced with a wonderful sense of energy, positivity and magnified good. We had an active start with the EISM Athletics, and a spectacular of creativity and house spirit with House Performing Arts.

At Huntingtower, we provide so many experiences for our students to engage in and get involved with, and it is wonderful to be part of a community which embraces these opportunities and strives for excellence. A big thank you to our parents who attended the recent Parent/Teacher Interviews and to our amazing staff.

It was a pleasure to host Dr Carina Garland, Federal Member for Chisholm, who accepted an invitation to speak to our Year 7 students during their Project Based Learning Politics Unit last Friday. Dr Garland thoroughly enjoyed speaking with the students and was impressed with the level of considered thought and compassion shown for members of the wider community and their interest in making a difference in the world.

EISM Athletics

Congratulations to our EISM Athletics team who completed another successful season.  The commitment of all students and staff who attended early morning trainings to be well prepared for the event was rewarded. Huntingtower won the overall Girls aggregate for the first time, and the most improved school for the second year in a row.

Well done everyone.

Dr Susan McLean – Cyber Safety Presentation

Huntingtower has been fortunate to engage the services of Dr Susan McLean, who will present to Secondary School Students and their families next week on the crucial importance of Cyber Safety. Dr McLean is considered Australia’s foremost expert in the area of Cyber Safety for young people. I really encourage families to attend the family presentation at 7.00pm on 16 May in the PAC. Complimentary tickets can be booked using the following link:  https://www.trybooking.com/CHXDY

HT Connect and APP

Huntingtower will soon release our new app to support communication with families. We have been working very hard behind the scenes implementing a new Learning Management System we have called HT Connect. The system is powered by SchoolBox.

Staff are very busy loading information and testing the system. Some students and families will be asked to participate in a trial this Term before we open to all families.

HT Connect will be the main point of reference for families and students and will replace Firefly.

Community feedback strongly indicated we needed to move from a reliance on email as our main tool to something that provides more targeted communication and easy access to student information, assessments, and feedback. Kylie Williams was appointed this year as our HT Connect Implementation Lead and has been working with a group of staff champions to get HT Connect ready for release. Further information will be made available to parents later this Term.

P&F Trivia Night

We are all enthusiastically looking forward to the P&F Trivia night this Saturday. For those attending, I am certain it will be a wonderful and fun night. A big thank you to our P&F for organising an entertaining community evening for us all to enjoy. All proceeds from the event will be donated to support our Performing Arts Department. Thank you to Mr Bockman and Mr Warner for being our quiz masters and MCs on the night.
