Year 2

In Term 2, our Year 2 students have been exploring the exciting world of the orchestra in Music. Students have been learning to identify and describe the different families of instruments, including the string, brass and percussion sections. They enjoyed listening to a variety of musical examples and discussing how each family produces sound and contributes to the overall performance.

Students have also been introduced to the important role of the conductor, learning how conductors guide musicians by keeping a steady beat and helping the ensemble play together. Through singing and movement, students have been developing their understanding of rhythm, pitch and teamwork.

Students continue to build their skills in listening to, performing and responding to music. It has been wonderful to see their growing confidence and enthusiasm as they engage with different styles and sounds of orchestral music.

Year 5/6

This term in Music, our Year 5 and 6 students have been developing their skills on the acoustic guitar, building confidence in playing chords and maintaining steady rhythm. It was fantastic to see students supporting each other as they practice and improve.

More recently, students have begun working together in small bands, taking on different musical roles including guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals. They are currently learning to perform “The Nights” by Avicii, focusing on playing in time, listening to one another and working as an ensemble.

Students have been developing their abilities to rehearse and perform music, while also responding to and reflecting on their own work and the work of others. The band setting has been a great way for students to build teamwork, communication and performance skills, and we look forward to seeing their progress continue throughout the year.
