School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) – Term 2 Update

Term 2 has seen our students continue to demonstrate an outstanding commitment to our school values through their positive behaviour and willingness to embrace consistent routines across the college.

A particular highlight has been the excellent way students have adopted our entry and exit routines. Students have done an amazing job meeting our expectations, especially in the way they leave classrooms ready for the next class by tidying their learning space, pushing in chairs and exiting calmly and respectfully.

These small actions have made a significant difference in creating orderly transitions and maximising learning time for everyone.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the roll out of the Positive Classroom Management Strategies and establishing safe, calm and orderly classrooms, we will also be introducing a consistent Call to Attention routine across the school in Term 3. This shared approach will ensure students receive the same clear cues to refocus quickly and engage in learning, regardless of which classroom they are in. Students will have this explicitly taught to them by each of their subject teachers at the start of Term 3.

It has also been fantastic to see students recognised for consistently demonstrating our values of Excellence, Respect, Teamwork and Commitment. So far this term, staff have awarded more than 5,000 Success Passes, celebrating the many positive contributions our students make each day.

Finally, we are incredibly proud to share that Lara Secondary College has been awarded Bronze recognition for our implementation of School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) by the Department of Education. This achievement recognises the strong systems and practices our staff and students have embedded to create safe, respectful and productive learning environments. Even more significantly, Lara Secondary College is the only secondary school in our network to receive this recognition this year, reflecting the collective commitment of our entire school community to positive behaviour and student success.
