Students will:

Learn about tulumbi as a traditional Macedonian sweet.

Develop sensory vocabulary to describe the appearance, aroma, taste and texture of tulumbi. Participate respectfully in a cultural food-tasting experience.

Success Criteria can:

Identify tulumbi as a traditional Macedonian sweet. Describe some of the ingredients used to make tulumbi. Explain how tulumbi are traditionally prepared and served. Taste tulumbi and describe their appearance, aroma, sweetness and texture. Use descriptive words such as sweet, syrupy, crispy, soft, sticky and golden. Give my opinion about tulumbi and explain what I liked or disliked. Explain one thing I learned about Macedonian food and culture.

Lena Mitrevska, our wonderful Macedonian kitchen helper, puts so much love, care and time into supporting our Macedonian Food Unit each year. She generously prepares traditional tulumbi for our students to taste, giving them the opportunity to experience an authentic part of Macedonian food and culture. Lena has been such a valuable asset to our kitchens over the years. Nothing is ever too much trouble for her, and she is always willing to help wherever she can. Her generosity, dedication and pride in sharing Macedonian traditions make our students’ learning experience that little bit more special. We are incredibly grateful for everything Lena contributes to our program and our school community
