This week Lalor Secondary College is celebrated R U OK day. R U OK is a suicide prevention charity in Australia, encouraging all of us to notice the signs of mental health struggle in friends, family, and colleagues. It is an opportunity for our community to pause and check in with one another. The school hosted its event on Thursday the 10th of September. There was an opportunity for each year level to take a period of study off to engage in a range of activities. Students attended a BBQ, as well as have the opportunity, participate in a range of sports, or engage in arts and crafts and indoor games. Students were encouraged to have positive discussions around mental health and building positive social relationships. Students also participated in a presentation in class around the importance of checking in on one another and starting the conversation.

On September 7th I had the pleasure of taking the year 8 table tennis teams out for interschool sports. The boys and girls teams did very well both finishing third in the competition. All students represented the school exceptionally. Thank you to student coaches Arrina, Di, and Harry who assisted for the day. 

Year 7 students will receive their immunisations on October 14th. Students received the Gardasil (HPV) and Boostrix (diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough) Vaccinations. Parents are required to engage through the VaxxApp to signal their intent. Information has been shared on compass from the school and to parent emails from Whittlesea Council regarding these. Thank you to all staff and students for their cooperation and support on vaccination day. 

Our Spring Concert will be held on the evening 20th of October. Performances range from woodwind, to violin, to drums, vocals, jazz ensembles and various bands. We will have students performing from all age levels and abilities performing for a packed house. It is a wonderful night of celebration of our student accomplishments and the progress of the music program which is going from strength to strength. Details are on compass. We look forward to seeing you there!

Finally, the SRC is running its second out of uniform day for the term on Thursday the 17th of September. The theme of the day is “Footy Colours Day”. Students are encouraged to wear a top of their favourite football team. Football can relate to any variety of the code (AFL, NRL, Soccer etc..). A gold coin donation is required.
