Level 4: Connect

L4 Homework Week 9-10 

Literacy: 

As we have settled back into the classroom post camp, the Level 4 students have continued to study the text 'Wonder' by analysing the author's word choice, and diving into how the sentence structure can impact us as readers. We have been refining our 'reading stamina' by setting aside time to engage in sustained, quality reading, and enjoy reading our texts for both information and enjoyment.

In Writing, we have been implementing the use of adjectives, conjunctions, and pronouns to give our sentence structure clarity, depth and detail. We have been editing our sentences to ensure that the adjectives we use can be ordered in a way that is clear and provides visualisation to our readers. By exploring conjunctions and pronouns it provides our writing with diversity, and allows us to combine sentences to support the flow of our writing. We have thoroughly enjoyed reading what the students produce with their 'Free Write Friday' time, watching their narrative work come to life!

In Core Literacy, we have learnt about the root word Meter means MEASURE.

Meter is often used at the end of words. Meter is used in words that have to do with the measurement of things like distance, speed, hearing and temperature. When we use "Metre", we are refering to the unit of measurement.

Matt Shanks

As part of Book Week Activities, Level 3 and 4 had a visit from Matt Shanks - https://www.mattshanks.com.au/ Author and Illustrator.

Matt showed us how he illustrates a book and inspired the students to draw simple pictures for their writing. The students had a lot of fun and have continued to draw in the classroom.

Science: Exploring flight

To continue Science Week and the exploration into flight, Ms Cullen, Wilko and Safety Sue organised the Air Force Heritage Squadron, No 100 Squadron to speak to the L3-6 students about Australia's historic aircraft. This Air Force’s Fleet of Heritage Aircraft operates out of two locations: RAAF Base Point Cook; and Temora Aviation Museum, Temora New South Wales. Students were able to try on helmets and parachutes and hold a propellar.

Numeracy: 

In Numeracy we have been revising the four operations of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. This icludes the various algorithms associated with each operation, with extra attention placed on solving problems when trading is required. 

All students continue to work on their individual Math Fluency tasks as well as problem solving. 

We would encourage all students to continue to practice their times tables when possible. 

Phillip Island Camp 

From flying high in the sky on the giant swing to locating the clues in nature spotto- Camp was a success!

Students demonstrated all our SEPS values throughout the time at camp. Activities included flying fox, archery, low ropes course and the boulder wall. Meal times were filled with laughter and full bellies. Night walks, hot chocolates and movie night were a time to reflect.
