Science week activities blast off!

During Science week, Parkdale saw lots of activities happening around the school.  Science Trivia ran in tutor groups, bicarb rockets were launched at lunchtime Monday and the first Parkdale Science Fair was held in the JLC Thursday 15th August in the evening. We had the Amazing Science Race on the Friday with teams from Year 7 to 12 racing around the school solving clues. The winners received canteen vouchers. Dissections were run at lunchtime on Thursday and our Librarian ran an amazing Trivia challenge for staff and students in the Library  Wednesday lunchtime.  Congratulations to all the Science students in years 7-9 who were awarded Science week awards for their curiosity and engagement in science.

 

 

ICAS Science Competition – 2024

This national competition was run on August 22nd.  Around 40 students entered and the following students achieved Distinctions putting them in the top 5% of the country. Ethan Patterson Year 7 and Thomas Richardson Year 9. Congratulations to the other students who achieved Credits and Merit awards too.

 

 

 

Cybersecurity Escape room – Quantum Victoria

On the 8th of August, 40 high ability maths students from Years 7-9 attended Quantum Victoria to experience several escape rooms looking at Cybersecurity issues. The students learnt about Phishing, keys, better passwords and how to protect themselves on-line. It was an educational and entertaining day where students had to collaborate in groups and solve problems in strict timeframes.
