ESP VISIT LA TROBE UNIVERSITY

On Wednesday 28th August our ESP Wednesday Program students got the taste of what the life of an elite athlete looks like.

We began with a tour of La Trobe University Sports Park which is set to become the national base for Football Australia's national women's programs, including the home of the Matildas, and the State Centres for Football Victoria and Rugby Victoria. Once complete, the facilities will span 15 hectares and will include separate Centres of Excellence for Football Victoria and Rugby Victoria.

We then met Amare Milford who is a young rugby league player who is cementing himself as one of Melbourne Storms brightest young stars. Milford’s career is still on the rise, and he is regarded as a promising talent for the future. Amare spoke to the ESP students about juggling life as a student and an athlete and the challenges and sacrifice that come along with it.

We finished off with “The importance of health and mental wellbeing for athletes” session which as we know is crucial to ensuring their success, both on and off the field of play. We heard from La Trobe’s team of in-house academics and professional staff who work with Elite Athletes on a weekly basis in the areas of nutrition, sleep, recovery and athlete mental wellbeing. They shared their tips and tricks to help students understand the importance of living a happier and healthier life.
