Kingston Division Athletics Carnival
Parkdale Secondary College delivered an outstanding performance at the recent Kingston Division Athletics Carnival, showcasing both individual and team excellence. Held at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve, the annual event saw schools from the Kingston region compete in a wide range of track and field events, and Parkdale students rose to the occasion, dominating in several categories.
All of the school’s athletes excelled in both track and field events, bringing home multiple gold medals and many 2nd and 3rd place ribbons. Among the standout performers was Kahsia Lockwood (Year 8) who won the overall 14 girls champion award, as well as Sophie Cheep (Yr 11), who claimed first place in the 100m, 200m, 400m and long jump. Archer Duke (Yr 9) won the 200m & 400m and relay events, whilst also breaking a record in the 400m with a time of 51.40sec. The relay teams also made waves, with consistent podium finishes across all age groups, while the junior girls squad (including the 12-13 & 14 years) clinched first place in their respective category, demonstrating teamwork and coordination under pressure.
Parkdale’s strength in distance running was evident as well, with several students securing top spots in the 1500m and 800m races, notably Riley Sullivan who broke a record with a time of 4:01.15 in the 1500m. Kahsia Lockwood, Eliza Ayres, Joel Dean and James Pizer-Die Ciero also claimed 1st in their respective events.
The field events were another area of triumph, with athletes excelling in shot put, discus, and high jump, showcasing both skill and determination. Jeremiah Jeans (Yr11) epitomised this when he set a new record in the triple jump with a leap of 13.5m!
The school community is incredibly proud of all the students who participated, whether they won medals or achieved personal bests.
Students now look towards their next challenge at the South Metro Region (SMR) Championships to be held at Casey Fields on Thursday 10th October, where we know they will represent our college with great pride and determination. Good Luck.
