Dear Karoo Community,
I am so excited to introduce our Mandarin Captains in 2026! 🎉 Our Mandarin Captains are student leaders who help make learning Mandarin fun and engaging for everyone. They share their love of Mandarin, support activities in class and around the school, and encourage others to give Mandarin a go!
Below, you can read a short blurb from each captain, written in their own words. They share a little about themselves, why they enjoy learning Chinese, and what they’re looking forward to in their role.

Hi, my name is Elias, one of your Mandarin Captains in 2026.
Some information about me is that: I speak Mandarin at home, I am turning 11 this year and I don’t like seeing people upset.
I chose to become the Mandarin Captain to make sure the Mandarin classroom is a safe place to be and to let students know they can be happy. I want to make Mandarin a place where students can learn Mandarin respectfuly and happily.
I’m a captain of our school so I want to be a role model to the younger kids and not to be looked down upon.

Hi, my name is Cici, I am a cheerful and easy going girl.
I love laughing, making friends, and sharing interesting stories with my classmates. I am also a careful and warm person who likes helping others.
I am the Mandarin captain because I really enjoy speaking Mandarin. I think it is really fun.
I will be responsible, set a good example, try my best to do this job well!
We are very proud of our Mandarin Captains in 2026 and can’t wait to see the great ideas and energy they bring this year!

Warm regards,
Ms Jiang
