Climate Canons

The Climate Canons hope everyone has had a great start to the 2026 academic year.

We’d like to introduce to the College community our 2026 Climate Canons Captain, Elizabeth Brosztl and our newest members Sophie Poudel, Manreet Gill, Sophie Leeming, Niamh Noonan, Smariti Kanger and Michaela Castiller. All members look forward to working with the College community to make SNC a greener, cleaner, sustainable environment for all. And remember, you can join us any time throughout the year!

Our Climate Canons have already been busy clearing 10 bags in 4 weeks of waste that would normally go to landfill through our Containers for Change program. It’s not always the most pleasant work, but our Climate Canons are up for the job to help reduce waste heading to landfill.

On Monday 9 March, the Climate Canons observed Clean Up Australia Day. This event started thirty-five years ago by Ian Kiernan, AO – just an “average Australian” with a simple idea to make a difference in his own backyard – which has now grown into the nation’s largest community-based environmental event. The official day is held every year on the first Sunday in March, bringing local communities together across the nation.

Over the years, more than 23-million wonderful volunteers have stepped up, pulled on their gloves, and donated their time to improve the environment. Here at the College, the Climate Canons hosted a Gold Rubbish Treasure Hunt and quiz asking students ab their knowledge of recycling.

Thank you to everyone who got involved, there was a lot of energy around the activity and we appreciate your support. Continue to pick up rubbish, use the bins correctly and recycle where you can.
