Aerobics State Championships
Well done to our junior school aerobics teams on their brilliant performances at the recent FISAF State Championships!
All six teams walked away with medals and have qualified for the National Championship event, held on the Gold Coast in September:
- LC Gems: 2nd in Year 4 Phase 1
- LC Diamonds: 1st in Year 4 Phase 2
- LC Groove: 1st in Year 5 Phase 1
- LC Opals: 1st in Year 6 Phase 1
- LC Spark: 2nd in Year 5-6 Phase 2
- LC Rock: 2nd in Large teams Year 5-6 Phase 2
The teams and coaches have been working extremely hard for months under the guidance of Ms Woods, with two early morning training sessions each week. They now have a well-earned break over the holidays before things ramp up in Term 3 as we head towards the National Championships.
All the routines from the State Championships are available on Loreto Connect – thanks to Ms Cobb for uploading them!
That Winning Feeling
The Soccer World Cup is in full swing, and a couple of our Loreto teams have been firing on all cylinders this term.
Vanessa, Violet, Amelia and the Year 4 Gold team were on the verge of an undefeated term as they headed into their final match; away against Westminster. Getting there is half the fun, they say. Whoever coined that phrase wasn’t thinking about a cross-town trek from Loreto to Westminster in school traffic, in pouring rain, and with a school disco to quickly head back for.
Well done to the families who made the journey! The rain, mud and traffic couldn’t stop us, and we stormed to another victory. The team has been piling on the goals all season and also kept a number of clean sheets. In several matches we had to politely stop counting the scores…
Daniel, Paulina and our Year 5 Blue team also managed to win every game for the term, even in a division with several Year 6 teams. We are building quite a passionate group of soccer players at the school, with a number doubling up and playing both school and club soccer.
Bring on Term 3.
Practice Makes Perfect
Sienna from our Year 3 Pink netball team was very excited last Saturday, as it was her turn to play at Goal Attack and Goal Shooter. She was kitted up and ready to go several hours early, but the 12 o’clock start time was taking foreeeeeever to roll around. Rather than sitting around watching the clock, Sienna headed outside for some goal shooting practice. Sienna sunk an amazing 201 goals on the Saturday morning before her game and felt READY when it was finally time to hop in the car.
It worked! Sienna shot brilliantly and we won by 2!
“I am building a fire, and every day I train, I add more fuel. At just the right moment, I light the match."
Mia Hamm (American soccer player)
You make your own luck. You make it in training.”
Simone Biles (Olympic gymnast)
“Champions keep playing until they get it right.”
Billie Jean King (Tennis player, 39 grand slam titles)
Breakthrough
Well done to our Year 5 Silver Netball team who picked up their first win on Saturday! We have battled hard against some much taller opponents in the first few rounds, copping a couple of heavy defeats but keeping our spirits up and never giving in. On Saturday things clicked, and we ran out winners 9-1. There was some rain during the afternoon, but the clouds parted in time for us to belt out the song!
Flipping The Script
Our Year 4 Slam Dunkers have had a great term under the guidance of coach Vanessa. The team has been developing some real chemistry, combining well with their passes and spreading out to create space. We defend… enthusiastically, which draws the odd foul but also leads to plenty of turnovers. Our dribbling skills are improving each week, with more and more players capable of bringing the ball down the court.
We had only one loss for the term, going down 14-4 to a strong Annesley team back in May. As luck would have it, the fixture pitted us against Annesley in our final game this week. A re-match!
The first half was an arm wrestle, and we went into the huddle down 4-5. After half time we turned on the jets and powered away to a resounding 16-10 victory! The “return leg” against teams you struggled against the first time is a great way to track your progress during a season, so this turnaround was great to see. All our players have improved throughout the term, and it’s fantastic to see some new names popping up on the scoresheet. A few of our students are playing their first season of basketball and it’s been lovely to see their skills develop. A special mention to Ruby who finished as the competition’s top point-scorer in Term 2!
Term 3 Sport
Most of Loreto’s winter sport continues across Terms 2 and 3 and students do not need to re-register for their current winter sport(s).
However, there is space for new participants to be added in some sports/age groups.
