Literacy 

In Literacy, students wrote a short text about cheetahs allowing them to review verbs, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions. We continued to explore the comprehension strategies ‘Main Idea’ and ‘Summarising’. Students had opportunities to practise these strategies after reading a short story called ‘What’s That Noise?’. 

In Spelling, we explored contractions by looking at words such as don’t, won’t and I’m. Students also practised reading, writing and sharing sentences about our tricky words: though, can’t and don’t.

Mathematics

In Maths, students have been exploring shapes and their features, identifying and describing sides, vertices and angles. We have also been learning about turns, using quarter, half, three-quarter and full turns to describe how shapes and objects move. Students have been investigating polygons, sorting and classifying shapes based on their features and applying their knowledge through hands-on activities including designing sports fields and city scapes, and problem-solving tasks.

Writing

In Writing, students have been exploring adverbials to add detail to their sentences. Using the book Walking in Gagudju Country: Exploring the Monsoon Forest, students have discovered Aboriginal names for animals, birds and trees found in the monsoon forest. They have also explored traditional Aboriginal practices, including catching fish, cooking food over a fire, and using honey and green ants for medicinal purposes. Through these rich experiences, students have been developing their ability to add how, when and where details to their writing while building their knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and connection to Country.
