Year 3/4 News 

Literacy

Students have been developing their writing skills by following the writing process to plan, draft, revise, edit and publish their informative texts. They have been learning to organise their ideas clearly, select relevant information and make improvements to their writing through careful revision and editing. 

In reading, students have been focusing on the strategy of “making connections to the text” to enhance their comprehension. They have been encouraged to connect what they are reading to their own experiences, other texts they have read, and the world around them. These connections are helping students to think more deeply about texts, make meaningful links between ideas and develop a stronger understanding of what they read.

Numeracy 

In Mathematics, students have been investigating improper fractions and developing their understanding of how fractions can be represented in different ways. They have also been exploring the decimal place value system and making connections between fractions and decimals. Throughout these learning experiences, students have continued to develop their problem-solving strategies by applying their mathematical knowledge to a range of tasks. They have also been working collaboratively during open-ended warm-up activities, sharing their ideas, explaining their thinking and learning from one another.

Inquiry Unit

Our excursion to the Lockington Living Heritage Centre was a fun and interesting experience. During the visit, we learned about the history of Lockington and how the local community has changed over time. We explored the historic buildings, looked at objects and displays from times gone by, and listened to stories about the people who lived and worked in the area. It was fascinating to see how people lived in the past and to compare their lives with ours today. The excursion helped us understand the importance of preserving local history and heritage. We enjoyed spending time together, asking questions, exploring the centre, and learning something new. 

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers from the Lockington Living Heritage Centre for providing us with this great experience and for helping us to gain a better appreciation of Lockington’s history and the people who help shape the community.

We are very much looking forward to our excursion to the Port of Echuca next Monday, September 7th, as students continue to learn about the history of the local area and community.
