EPS Celebrates Our First ResourceSmart Schools Star

We are excited to share that Elsternwick Primary School has recently been awarded our first ResourceSmart Schools star for completing our Core module!

This is an important milestone in our school’s sustainability journey and recognises the work happening across our school community to build a more sustainable future.

A key focus this year has been biodiversity and creating better habitat for native wildlife around our school grounds. Our students have been involved in planting native trees and plants, helping to create greener spaces and provide food and shelter for local wildlife.

Our Grade 5 Sustainability Leaders have also been learning about sugar gliders and other native animals and have been working on a special project to create sugar glider nesting boxes. Students have designed, built and personalised the nesting boxes, which will be installed around the school grounds to provide additional habitat for local wildlife.

Earlier this month, our Sustainability Leaders had the opportunity to attend the Sustainability in Schools Festival at the Port Phillip EcoCentre. Students shared our school’s biodiversity work with other schools and even ran a workshop about our native planting and nesting box project. It was fantastic to see our students taking on leadership roles and sharing their ideas and experiences with the wider community.

Receiving our first ResourceSmart Schools star is a wonderful achievement, but it is also the beginning of our journey. We look forward to continuing to work with students, staff and families to make EPS an even more sustainable and environmentally responsible school. Our next target is to complete the Biodiversity module to earn star number two!
