Principal's Report

Earlier this week, ten students from our Year 12 Italian class here at THS visited local Italian elders at the Willow Centre in Abbotsford to spend some quality time with them, singing songs for them, cooking for them, and serving them tea. The feedback from the Centre was incredibly positive, with our young people treating everyone with kindness, courtesy and respect, and showing an active interest in the lives of these local residents (the youngest of whom was 83 years old). Our students spoke confidently in Italian and communicated successfully throughout the visit, and we have been asked to return whenever possible. I’m so proud of our Italian students for representing the school values in the community with pride and confidence - bravissimo! Also, grazie mille to our Head of Languages, Ms Chiara Florio, for organising and running this event.
This week, students from our student leadership team have worked with staff to organise and promote a series of events for Pride Week. It has been great to see students getting involved in a number of great events across the week, including guest speakers, a Pride Cup footy game, and a badge and friendship bracelet making craft event. Our commitment to Pride Week also speaks to our core values as a school, and our inclusive and positive culture at THS.
In our recent Shakespeare Festival, we watched students performing As You Like It, with great performances from everyone involved, actors and musicians alike. The staging and direction made use of different spaces in our Sports and Performing Arts Centre, including the lobby, the gym and finally the auditorium. The creative choices helped to make this a very successful production. Thank you to Ms Fi Parrey, Head of Performing Arts, and Mr Lewis Waite, Music teacher, for their hard work on making this such an impressive event.
