Secondary News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It’s hard to believe we are already into week 4 of Term 2.  With our mid-term reporting cycle upon us, our classrooms have been filled with lots of exciting and positive learning experiences with our students.  As always, we encourage you to converse with your child about the topics they are learning about in class.

Our Senior students in Years 10-12 enjoyed an excursion to the Victorian Careers Expo where many were able to explore various courses and educational institutions and attend workshops from organisations such as the Australian Defence Force and Victoria Police.  The day was a huge success, with students in all year levels explaining they found the day very helpful and inspiring in their preparations for their potential pathways beyond school.

This week our College community has been celebrating Reconciliation Week, welcoming guests to meet and perform workshops with our students that honour the traditions and experiences of our Indigenous community.  At the start of the week, our primary and secondary students and staff were blessed to be involved in a traditional smoking ceremony where the burning of native plants is a tradition when welcoming visitors and preparing a space for new activities. Following this, our students engaged in workshops including jewellery making, aboriginal music and boomerang throwing.

In the coming weeks, Year 7-11 students will be completing exams. Exam week begins on Monday 16th June. Students in Years 7-9 will be completing exams in Maths, Science, English and Humanities. Year 10 and 11 students will complete exams for a majority of their core subjects. The exam timetable and further information about the exams will be sent in the next few weeks. Monday 23rd June is a student-free day for Secondary students as the teachers have an exam correction day.

Literacy Games at Lunch

Every Thursday at lunch an eager group of secondary students and staff come together to play Literacy Games @ Lunch. It's fun, engaging, fosters social interaction, lively conversation and a bit of excitement. We've played Scrabble, Banagrams, Celebrity Heads and UNO.

Last week Mr Schultz even dropped in with his guitar and played some Spanish tunes.

All secondary students are warmly invited to attend.
