In recent weeks, students have shifted their focus from Celebrations Around the World to a new unit on Australia and its Neighbours. They have explored the climate of different regions within Australia and examined the culture, geography, and climate of neighbouring countries, including New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Pacific Island nations such as Fiji and the Solomon Islands.
In writing, students have been applying their knowledge by planning informative paragraphs. The focus has been on developing strong topic sentences and supporting details, helping them structure their writing clearly and extend their ideas effectively.
Mathematics
In mathematics, students have recently completed their second unit on addition and subtraction. They have developed a strong understanding of both mental and written strategies and have applied these strategies to a range of problems. Students will now shift their focus to multiplication and division, where they will be introduced to the CUBES strategy and the use of bar models to support problem solving.
Grade 3 students continue to make steady progress in number fluency, with many advancing to more challenging skills and demonstrating growing confidence in their mathematical thinking.
Inquiry
Over the past few weeks, students have been working on designing and creating a bollard for the upcoming 150 Years Celebration Day. They have shown tremendous effort and creativity, and are proud of the work they will showcase at the end of term.
In the coming weeks, students will begin brainstorming ideas and collecting information for the Grade 3 project, 150 Facts in 150 Years, which will also be featured as part of the Celebration Day.
