Grade 4

English

In reading, Grade 4 students have finalised their unit on Local Government. Throughout the unit, they explored key questions such as: What is the role of local government? Who are its members? How can local government impact our lives? Students will now begin a new unit on Making Maps, starting with an exploration of the purposes of maps, the different types of maps, and how they are used in various contexts.

In writing, students have been strengthening their ability to plan informative paragraphs. They have been learning to structure their writing with clear topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences.

Mathematics

Over the past two weeks, Grade 4 students have completed a unit on angles, where they learned to name, compare, estimate, and classify different types of angles. This week, students are shifting their focus to fractions, beginning with equivalent fractions such as halves, quarters, eighths, and beyond.

In addition, Grade 4 students continue to strengthen their automaticity through number fluency sessions. Many students have shown improvement in their understanding and have progressed to more complex skills.

Inquiry

Students are now finalising their bollard designs for the end-of-term 150 Years Celebration Day. They have put a great deal of effort into their work and are very proud of their designs.

In the coming weeks, students will begin preparing the Grade 4 display for Celebration Day, where they will explore ideas about what Barwon Heads PS might look like in the future. Watch this space!
