Library News

The library in 2024 has been abuzz with busy students and teachers eager to enjoy our vibrant, lively and, above all, safe learning environment.

As we rapidly approached the end of the year and our busy stock take time, we wrapped up the year with some celebratory and fun events.

In mid-November, the library team rewarded all students who successfully completed the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC), with our annual pizza lunch party and presentation ceremony.

Once again, we continued our proud tradition of promoting the VPRC, and we supported all Year 7 students to participate in the challenge as well as any interested Year 8, 9 and 10 students. The library staff worked throughout the year on our wider reading program based around encouraging students to successfully complete the VPRC.  We are very proud of all students who succeeded in completing the challenge and, in doing so, gaining the educational benefits of regular and sustained reading.

This year, the library played host to many musical performances from our talented instrumental music students. The final presentation in late November was a performance by the Junior Stage Band in one of their first public performances.  The band was made up of all girls in either Year 7 or Year 8 and it was marvellous to see the confidence and talent in all the girls who performed on the day.

Our final event for the year was a chess battle between college principal Mr. Dedes and our chess master Alexander Santa Caterina of 9I. The two faced off in a battle of wits and strategy to determine the ultimate chess champion of 2024. Sadly, lunchtime proved too short a timeframe to determine the ultimate winner, and the game ended with a well fought out draw. We would like to thank Alexander for running the lunchtime chess club, and for encouraging students from all year levels to improve their chess skills.

Once again, the library team had fun decorating the library for Christmas by upcycling old and deleted books.

On behalf of the library team, we would like to farewell long time teacher-librarian and former library leader Mr. Peter Budisavljevic and thank him for his steady steering of the library ship for over 20 years. We wish him well with his well-deserved retirement and trust that he will use this time to enjoy many exciting and happy adventures.

We would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday and we look forward to the start of 2025 and welcoming our existing students and meeting our new ones. Please enjoy the photos from our recent library events and our book themed Christmas decorations.
