Terrific 2

Year 2 Newsletter
Term 2 Week 8 2026 - Friday 12th, June
What have we been up to?
It really is amazing to think that we only have two weeks to go until the end of term. This term has been full of such fun and positive learning experiences for the year twos. Plus it has been a term where we have been learning about so many different areas in life. Literacy and numeracy are the backbones of our curriculum, combined with other learning areas. However, this term we have been learning about the need for care and specific treatment if someone is unwell with cancer. We welcomed Georgia back into our classrooms for a visit, and it was so wonderful to see her. Georgia was very informative regarding her treatment and her specific needs. We look forward to seeing her soon.
We also enjoyed watching the Australian swimming trials in Sydney this week. Miss Amber, one of our Le Page staff members, was swimming in the trials. We were so proud to watch Miss Amber swim and do a personal best time for her 50 metres. We had valuable conversations about the importance of trying your very hardest and best, no matter what difficulties may be in front of you.
We have also been discussing behaviour and looking after each other. This involves making good choices and being proactive in our interactions with other people.
Next week we will start our swimming program. It is going to be a very busy two weeks. Information will be sent out to parents on Compass.
In Literacy, we are still focusing on our information texts. Last week, the year twos planned their animal information texts. They then completed drawings with the relevant information. This included what their animal looked like, what it ate, where it lived and what did their animal like to do? This could be climbing in trees or wallowing in mud etc. The written texts and accompanying pictures were so fantastic! The year twos worked very hard! This week they will be tying up their information texts and publishing them.
This term, we are exploring the following in phonics:

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement, incorporating mass and capacity. The year twos have been using scales to weigh many different objects in their classrooms. We have been comparing the mass of items and using a variety of informal units to weigh specific objects. They have really enjoyed doing all the hands on activities with our brand new scales! It has been such a fun and positive learning experience!
In Inquiry, we are learning about chemical science. We have been looking at the different states of matter - solid, liquid and gas. We then learnt about mixtures, and how different mixtures can change the state of matter of an object. Last week, we made slime! The students had such fun!
Our year two students are really enjoying learning about chemical sciences.
